Augusta Atla van Fogh is a painter, born 1979 in Copenhagen, Denmark
Augusta made art since she was 14 years old and art is a natural part of who she is.
From 2007 - 2016, Augusta embarked on a painting and visual field research across Europe, living in Venice, Rome, Milan, Paris and Athens, visiting the artworks of the European Masters, researching religious and deific iconography, and exploring the history and meaning of traditional women costuming that all still influence and make up her artwork today.
Augusta received a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmith’s, Uni of London, UK in 2006 and a MA in Art History from Architectural Association, London, UK in 2008. She was granted Award of Excellence by the Fine Art faculty of Goldsmiths, Uni. of London in 2006 and also granted Horsens Kunstmuseum Art Award in 2007.
Augusta's paintings, prints, collages, sculptures and drawings are in private collections in UK, FR, DK, GR, IT, UAE, CH, USA, ES.
And currently around 20 artworks of hers are part of public museum collections (-see full list below and/or link here).
Augusta has exhibited solo and group shows in galleries, museums, art institutions, art fairs, contemporary festivals and kunsthalle in Denmark, Norway, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Greece, France, Italy (see full cv below).
Augusta lived partly or full time in Athens Greece for 6 years (2011-2016) and stayed so long because aspects of her own art understanding is similar to that of the Ancient Greeks.
Between 2014-2016 Augusta founded, curated and directed MAISON d'ART CONTEMPORAIN ATHÈNES / MACA at Athens, Greece.
Now living in Copenhagen, Augusta continues to go some months per year to Greece, if possible, to focus on my pictorial research on Ancient Greek Art.
Augusta's daily practice and main focus is painting. Painting fits her temperament, agreeing to its manual construct that exposes everything and that every stroke is unique. Painting's architecture and dna for Augusta functions like a visual example of what is defined by Chaos Theory: the quality of the whole is determined by even the smallest gesture, which may seem tiny or irrelevant.
